Halvorson-Johnson Funeral Home - Brainerd Obituary

Vivian Joy Austin, 76, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 14, 2012, surrounded by family and friends, knowing she was transitioning from this life to the Heavenly place Jesus, her Saviour and Lord, had promised to prepare for her.

Vivian was born on July 28, 1936, in Hollaway, MN to John and Edna (Reinmuth) Boelsen.

Vivian graduated from Moorhead State University and in 1980 went on to earn her Masters degree in Education from St. Cloud State University. She served as the president of BEA (Brainerd Education Association). She retired from teaching in the Brainerd area after 35 years at Whittier and Riverside Elementary Schools. Vivian took great pride and pleasure in teaching her young students how to read and utilize all of their God-given talents.

Vivian enjoyed being a part of, and initiating anything that had to do with family, friends and helping others. Her bridge club, Bible study, donating all of her time and talents, traveling and being the best friend and person you can be.

Vivian was a huge blessing in the beginning and on-going life of Open Door Community Church. She graciously opened her home to Sunday morning worship and Wednesday evening Bible study. God was her rock and first place in her life.

Vivian Joy was preceded in death by her parents, John and Edna.

She will be deeply missed and remembered in the highest regard by her brother, Richard (Barb) Boelsen of Alexandria, MN; her children, Charyl Bachmeier of Prior Lake, MN, Curt (Jennifer) Christensen of Brainerd, MN, Eric (Farida) Christensen of Sacramento, CA; her grandchildren, or "Beautiful Blessings" as she liked to refer to them, Brian, Patricia, Joshua (Amanda), Laine, Matthew, Zachary, Jenna, Tyler, Luke, Shaw and Shyri; her great granddaughters, Aftyn, Ella, Marianna and Norah; and her dear friend, Karin.

A Memorial Service will be held on December 27, 2012 at 2:00 PM at Edgewood Vista. Visitation begins 1 hour prior to the service.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Jim and Sue Rodgers and the loving people from Mable's Home (Edgewood Vista), St. Croix Hospice and Home Instead Senior Care, for the care and support they gave to all of us during this journey.

In lieu of flowers, Vivian would prefer that all memorials be presented to "The 2013 Walk to End Alzheimer's", because...She will make a difference.

MY TRIBUTE TO VIVIAN

I was very fortunate to have known Vivian. Her name was mentioned so often by our family in Germany. Grandma Boelsen always reminded us to include her in our prayers. Vivian was her first grandchild and she was so far away. How much everyone would have loved to have known her personally, but only I had that privilege.

I used to work at Edgewood Vista and I loved Viv. She was so full of fun and mischief. I can still see her dancing with Elvis at the summer BBQ. It was an honor to get to know her and I miss her. What a beautiful spirit.

Curt, Jen, and family:
I am so sorry for your loss. Wish you peace and love.

I picture Vivian dancing pain-free in the home of The Lord that she loved. She is safe and loved
Your friend, Sharon
