Who could forget Mrs. Hickey? There was only one person that could have taken over the Illinois senate seat, when Betty Ann Keegan passed away, and that was Vivian Hickey. Both Betty Ann and Vivian Hickey had a special inner energy that most of us will never know. Mrs. Hickey called me often, when she was in her eighties, to remind me to go to a luncheon for Rockford College Alumni. What a force! I will continue to remember her fondly.

Mrs. Hickey was one of my favorite mothers, growing up in Rockford. The last time I had an opportunity to talk with her was in 2000, when she called me to ask me to a luncheon for Rockford College alums. We had a great talk. I will always have wonderful memories of her, both as a "mom" and as a political force.
I am sending my thoughts to her "boys"... we all will miss our mothers forever. Mrs. Hickey made an indelible impression on all of us in the "next generation" and we will always...
