Vivian Jean Wilkerson, at age 80, peacefully departed this earthly life and entered into eternal rest on Monday, November 8, 2021, in Washington, DC. Vivian, better known as Jean, attended the District of Columbia Public Schools, where she graduated from Spingarn Senior High School.

After graduating, Jean married and became a stay-at-home mom for many years. She later decided to pursue her passion for educating children; therefore, started taking several child care courses. Upon completion of the program, she became certified, as a home daycare provider.

For over two decades, she ran Jean’s Daycare home, touching the lives of many children in the DC metropolitan area. She loved all children with her heart and soul. “If you knew her, you loved her, and if she knew you, you were loved”. Even after retiring from childcare, she often spent her time caring for her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and children in the neighborhood.

Jean was a dedicated charter member of Second Union Baptist Church since 1951, where she served the Lord until she departed this life. While at Second Union, she grew and matured in her spiritual walk with the Lord. She was an active member who served on several ministries over the years. Some of the ones that were close to her heart was Sunday School, Prayer, Bible Study, Pastor’s club, Testifying to God’s goodness, and singing in the choir. For more than 35 years, she lifted her voice up in praise, during the Sunday, Evening, and Special services. She believed in making a joyful noise unto the Lord. Her favorite scripture was Psalms 23 .1 “The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want”.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents, George Phillip and Margaret Muse, Aunt Bet and Aunt Virginia (aunts who raised her) and brother, Bert Muse.

She leaves to cherish her memory, a loving son, Samuel Wilkerson, Jr.; daughters, Rev. Jacquelyn Morrison (Rev. Curtis), Virginia Wilkerson, and Monique Stephens. She also leaves to cherish her memory, grandchildren, Jameka, Sherdina, James, Maria, Ranica, Curtis IV, Corona, Angel, Latasha, Theresa, Jeremiah, Joshua, and Nastacia; great-grandchildren, Neyamiah, Tanzanea, Kyrie, Mackyniz, Daeona, Giavanni, Iyana, Taylor, Madison, Reagan, Shyann, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members.

Family and friends will unite on Thursday, November 18, 2021 for visitation from 10 am - 11 am; service from 11 am - 12 noon at Second Union Baptist Church, 1107 Delaware Avenue, S.W., Washington, DC 20024. Interment to follow at Heritage Cemetery, 13472 Poplar Hill Rd, Waldorf, MD 20601.

Not sure what to say?

Grandma I just wanted to stop here and say that Im thinking about you right now at work. I love you and am still trying to make you proud. Hey, I read somethings that you wrote down the other day from a Bible you gave me. I cried like a baby because you taught us all to be loving and love the Lord. I can still feel your heart in your words and hear your laughter. I miss our phone calls and you riding shot gun in my car lol. I miss you looking back to make sure I'm okay while I'm making sure...

Sending Prayers and Condolences to the Family from Maureen and Spencer Gage. Jean you will truly be missed. You have gained your Heavenly Wings and Resting Peacefully with God!

Love always
Maureen

My dear Aunt Jean. I will always love you. You were my rock. You were like a mom to me as opposed to being an aunt. You loved me unconditionally regardless of all of my mistakes I made in my life.

RIP baby. I'll see you again one day.

Love,

Freida

Sending our love and prayers to you all during this diffcult time.
