W. Franklin Hollinger, 92, of Harrisburg, passed away Monday morning at Homeland Center. He was born in Shady Grove, PA and married Dorothy Snyder of Harrisburg. He and his wife were members of the Colonial Park United Church of Christ. Along with his father, he operated the Blue Mountain Hotel and Golf Club, and was a licensed realtor and insurance broker. Very active in the Harrisburg business community, Franklin was past president of several business organizations, including the Harrisburg Exchange Club, the Harrisburg Builders Exchange, Central Pennsylvania Society of Real Estate Appraisers and the Harrisburg Board of Realtors, where he was named Realtor of the Year in 1972. From 1973 thru 1977, Franklin served the city he loved as Controller for the City of Harrisburg. He was a member of the Euclid Lodge #698 F. & A.M., the Harrisburg Consistory, The Zembo Shrine, and was president of the Zembo Luncheon Club in 1976-77. An active hunter and competitive shooter, Franklin was a Life Member of the American Trap Association and National Skeet Shooting Association. A two time member of Sports Afield’s All American Skeet Shooting team and was inducted into the Pennsylvania State Skeet Shooters Hall of Fame in 2001. A graduate of the Harrisburg Academy and Dickinson College, Franklin served in World War II, where he was attached to the Mighty 8th Army Air Corps in Great Britain. In 2006, Franklin honored his late wife by endowing the Dorothy S. Hollinger Conservatory in the Ellenberger Unit at Homeland Center. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clara and W.M Hollinger of Harrisburg, as well as his wife Dorothy. He is survived by his sons: Robert F. Hollinger of Wexford, PA and Donald W. Hollinger of Savannah, GA; grandchildren: Matthew Hollinger and Megan Hollinger, both of Rochester Hills, MI. Memorial services will be held at the Jesse H. Geigle Funeral Home on Thursday, January 30, 2014 at 4:00 PM, with The Reverend Dr. Bonita Zobeck presiding. There will be a visitation starting at 2:00 PM until the time of the service. Burial will be at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville on Friday, January 31, 2014 at 10:30AM. In lieu of flowers, the family requires that memorials be made to Homeland Center, 1901 North 5th Street, Harrisburg, PA 17102.
