Col Hammer, it was a pleasure to serve with you during our Desert Storm mission in Saudi Arabia. I know you will be missed. God Speed, Sir!

I first met COL Hammer in late 1985 at the annual Military Surgeons (AMSUS) meeting in California. The 345th Combat Support Hospital of Jacksonville NAS was seeking medical and dental officers to go to REFORGER in West Germany three months later. He agreed and it was arranged. Five years later i joined his unit, the 382d Field Hospital for deployment to Saudi Arabia for Desert Storm. Wade was my friend and mentor for over 45 years. He was my Professor of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at MCG starting in 1973. He was key to my development and my desire to become an Oral Surgeon. Wade also preceded me as the National Dental Surgeon of the Reserve Officers Association and guided me through this process.
