I am so sorry to hear about the passing of Captain Griff. He was a good friend to my mother for many years. After she took ill, he would come to her nursing home and take her for a long ride and out to lunch. She was just asking about him on Mothers Day, so I decided to try to find him. RIP Captain, you lived your life fully with honor and grace.

I met Captain Griff at Costco, where I work. He would always come to visit me or look for me before and after he did his shopping. I visited him on the USS Midway and my sister and i took him once to get Starbucks... He took all his old pictures and told us amazing stories about his years as a pilot during WWII. What an incredible person...a lovely man and proud father, grandfather and great grandfather. He also showed me pictures of his beautiful family and brave granddaughter who is a highway patrol officer... His daughter the teacher...an all his family. It saddened me to find out about his passing, but proud that I met him...a real World War II pilot, and a true hero. An interesting man and an awesome and super fun person to talk to. I will greatly miss him, and his visits to my store. Prayers for his family and loved ones.

Griff was an incredible spirit. Here at the Midway, hundreds, if not thousands were lucky to hear his storytelling. He was an exceptional citizen and a dear friend. I'm truly grateful to have known him and in turn, the Griffin family. Thank you for the beautiful service. The music, the stories.. THE PICTURES! :)

Diane, Patty, Kathleen, Teresa. Like the typical Navy man that he was, your father fought a long and hard battle.
Take care.
