Walter F. Pilcher (born 10-18-72), the consummate Eagle Scout, died early Sunday morning, September 13 in an automobile accident. Comments on Facebook attest to the fact that Wally lived the Scout law: he was "trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind . . ." whether he was at work, volunteering for a neighborhood or community project, supporting his children's activities or serving his church. He loved his family, his wife Debbie and his children Jacob, Matthew and Rebekah, always seeking a balance between his work and family so he could spend more time with them.
Wally graduated from Wylie High School in Abilene, Texas in 1991, received a BA from Southwestern University in 1995 and received his MBA from the Fuqua School of Business at Duke University. No one cheered louder for the Blue Devil's basketball team!
He spent much of his career at Dell Computer and at the time of his death, he was the Director of Technology Sales and Solutions at Office Depot. Though he spent many years in sales and marketing, he most enjoyed the managerial positions, mentoring and encouraging his fellow employees, putting a plan together and making it work.
Wally's life revolved around his faith, his family and his friends. He served as "dinner dean" for the children's Wednesday night LOGOS program, assisted with the high school youth Sunday School class, and served as an ordained elder on the Session. He was grounded in a strong sense of faith which he and Debbie have instilled in their children. He loved scouting, supporting Jacob and Matthew in their local troops. He and the family were committed to Little Helping Hands of Austin where Wally served on the board of directors.
Wally was preceded in death by infant daughter, Anna. He is survived by his wife of 20 years Debbie, and his children Jacob, Matthew, and Rebekah. Joining them in their loss are his parents, Ben and Melissa Pilcher of Georgetown, his brother and sister-in-law Stephen and Diane Pilcher of Houston, his in-laws Gerard and Evelyn Smith of Katy, a large, loving extended family and a multitude of friends – all of us confident that God opened His arms wide and said, "Well done, my good and faithful servant . . ."
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 10th at Perkins Chapel Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Little Helping Hands of
