Walter C. Blevins, 80, of Arkansas City, died Sunday (July 19, 2009) at the William Newton Memorial Hospital of Winfield. Graveside services were held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday (July 22, 2009) at the Hope Cemetery. Pastor Gale Rider officiated. Donnie Huffman sang "River Crossing" and "Go Rest High On That Mountain". Walter was born January 11, 1929, Arkansas City to James and Myrtle (Reynolds) Blevins. He was reared and educated in Arkansas City graduating in 1948. He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. He married Betty Jane Crowell in Tullahoma, Tennessee. He worked as a jet engine mechanic at General Electric for many years at the Arnold Engineering Development Center at Tullahoma. He returned to the Arkansas City area in 1991 after retirement. He was a life member of VFW and American Legion. Survivors include two daughters Cynthia D. Blevins of Arkansas City; Susanne B Woodlee of Greenville, South Carolina; a son John C. Blevins of Orreville, California; brother William A. and his wife Jeanne Blevins of Arkansas City; sister Mary Scovel of Wichita; six grandchildren April Burnett; Rachel Woodlee, Jeremy Blevins, John Blevins, Casey Paton, and Corey Blevins; two great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Betty, brother Virgil Blevins and a sister June Blevins. A memorial has been established with the Shepherd's Grace Church.
