BURNS, WALTER E., Jr., 85, passed away peacefully at home in Cranston Wednesday November 28, 2012. He was the beloved husband of Alice (Mallinson) Burns. They recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. Born in Providence a son of the late Walter E. and Mary (Doherty) Burns. Mr. Burns was an Ironworker, member and business agent of Local # 37, and most recently a Bridge Inspector for the State of Rhode Island, retiring last year. He was a LaSalle Academy Class of 1944 graduate and was a WWII U.S. Navy Veteran. Besides his wife, he is survived by four daughters; Patricia Simas and husband Joseph of Cranston, Beverly Williams and husband Thomas of Maryland, Robin Oertel and husband Roger of NH, Lynn Casale and husband Kenneth of Cranston and five grandchildren who were the love and light of his life; Dana, Jeremy, Jenna, Jordan and Christopher. He was the brother of the late Eugene Burns and Catherine Burns. His funeral and visitation is Saturday from 8:00 -9:15 a.m. from "WOODLAWN' Funeral Home 600 Pontiac Avenue Cranston followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Matthew's Church, Cranston. Burial with Military Honors will follow in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston.
