Not sure what to say?

Dr Cain did surgery on our 5 week old baby girl which saved her life in 1968. She grew into a beautiful young lady who went on to make a doctor of pharmacy so she could help people in need. Married, raised 3 beautiful girls. We think of Dr Cain often and will be forever grateful for what he did for her and how he treated us as terrified parents for our firstborns life. God bless all of you!!Sam & Emily Wilson, Union City, TN

I think of Walter often. He was an excellent mentor and an even better friend. Some of us "seasoned" surgical staff members frequently repeat some of Walter's famous words of wisdom, such as "Don't waste senseless motion." A frequent question he asked at 7:15 AM was "What's the hold up?" Walter was a no nonsense kind of man with a world of wisdom and vision. He most definitely left an impact on his profession, Children's of Alabama, and on many of us personally. He is greatly missed.

Dr Cain performed heart surgery on me in 1964 at Children's Hospital in Pittsburgh. I was 4 1/2 years old. Now, 55 years later, I am saddened at the loss of the person who gave me new life and I never got to thank personally as an adult. As I currently am looking at having a new valve replacement for the work that Dr Cain originally did, today's doctors marvel at Dr Cain's operative report and the work he did on me; and they tell me that I am fortunate to have done so well and lived so long....

I am sorry to hear of the loss of your loved one. May your family find comfort in the words found at Psalm 36:9--"With you is the source of life."

One of the finest men I have ever known. Walter taught me so much not only about pediatric surgery but so much about life. An extraordinary man who I loved dearly. Byrd, Andy, and Margaret my thoughts and prayers are with you.

Had the opportunity to be acquainted with Dr. Cain years ago when he performed surgery on my son. He was wonderful to both my son and to my husband and I. That meant the world to us both.

"Helping Hands"

What an amazing surgeon and an amazing man! I learned so much from him, not only about patient care, but also about life in general. Walter, you will always be an inspiration to those who have been privileged enough to know you. Rest in peace.

46 years ago my son, David lll was born in Jasper, Al. He was unable to keep food down and five days after his birth the Drs. in Jasper said he would die. At 3AM on the morning of the sixth day I took him to Children's Hospital in Birmingham. Within two days Dr. Cain had him sitting upright and keeping food down. He never had another problem and has given me two magnificent grandchildren. Thank you Dr. Cain!

Walter Cain was a friend and mentor for me. An amazing physician and friend. RIP Walter, you will be missed.
