My name is William Gordon. I met Walter Cunningham when I was 11 years old. It was and always has been one of the most memorable experiences of my life. In April 1970, during my spring break from school my father, Jack Gordon and I went to Mission Control in Houston, Texas. My dad was a United States national handball champion. The sport of handball at the time was popular among the astronauts. My dad was invited to play Walter on the base. It was fun to watch them play. I remember asking...

I had the honor of meeting Walt and his wife, Dorothy, back in 2016. Walt had such a fascinating perspective on life from his time in space. He was clearly a brilliant man but so humble. And Dot was the warmest, kindest woman. We filmed a short doc about what he hoped his legacy would be upon his passing. It is now available on Vice.com: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G2b8Dmuwg30 My deepest sympathies to Dot and the rest of the family at this difficult time.
