It was a joy to stay in touch with him in retirement, always kibbitzing about politics, health and humor. I fondly recall going on several of those marches on Washington in the 70s--great fans of democrats and indeed, fairness in life! RIP! Walt.. a life lived well.

Walter was a charismatic and brilliant headmaster at The Independent Day School in Middlefield, CT. I admired his great intellect and his passionate engagement in the life of the school. I remember him toting blankets and pillows across campus to the students stranded at school overnight in a blizzard. Walter was very special.

What an incredible man. I loved working for and with Walter for two years when I first relocated to the DMA in 1977. I can vividly recall many dinners and animated, informed conversations and cherish the memories at Hill.
