A toast to Walter, my friend and mentor. I know not what turns my life might have taken without his guidance and assistance.
My favorite memory is of us "appropriating" a bottle of wine from the wine cart as we flew home from WDC to SF. We had just learned that we had received a large contract and felt the need to celebrate. The year was 1971.

My husband, Marz, put a bench in our side yard for Walter to rest before he turned and walked home. Marz died 9/8. Walter died soon after. They are now sitting by Marz's memorial Japanese Maple which is decked out for Christmas. They are discussing WWll and thereafter.

I’ve missed seeing Walter on his walks through the neighborhood the past few weeks and am saddened to hear of his passing. He was always happy to share a smile and neighborly wave. My thoughts are with his family and all who love him.

I enjoyed our many walks together - Walter, Kirby, Maggie and I. He had a great intellect, tremendous candor and always offered a thoughtful perspective on current events. I will miss Walter.
