A.O. Smith Funeral Home - Thomas Street Chapel Obituary

Walter Crain Kahanek, 66, of Texarkana, Texas went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, May 30, 2022 at Methodist Hospital in Houston, Texas.

Walt was born October 29, 1955, in Houston, TX, minutes after his identical twin brother, Ron. Walt’s happiest moments were shared with his loving wife Suzanne, their dogs and his dear family & friends. The avid outdoorsman and proud Texan loved being in a duck blind or out on a boat with those he held most dear. As a kidney transplant recipient, Walt was given 8 more wonderful years. That life-saving gift and the overwhelming support for it enabled and shaped his final years that were filled with gratitude. That transformative gift was one he paid forward as an organ and tissue donor himself.

Walt graduated from Milby High School, Houston, TX in 1974 and completed his business degree at Texas A&M University in 1978. He worked across the oil & gas industry for decades including his own petroleum trading business, 4K Petroleum Services. Walt also co-owned Packrat Storage in Broken Bow, OK, Redwater Mini Storage, Whispering Oaks Ranch and The Cluck Wagon restaurant in Redwater, Texas.

He is survived by his loving wife of 28 years, Teresa “Suzanne” Morris Kahanek, one son and daughter-in-law, Jared Kahanek and Allison Fisher of Washington, DC, one daughter and son-in-law, Jessica Kahanek & Lewis Lowe of Washington, DC, two grandsons, Joseph & Charlie Lowe of Washington, DC, father, Eugene Kahanek of Texarkana, TX, brother Ron & Kathy Kahanek of Houston, TX, nephews, Kyle and Jack Kahanek of Houston, TX, his kidney Donor and cousin, Clint Steindorff & Sharen of Katy, TX, special cousins Carole Steindorff, Helen Marie Wallace & Ronnie, Kelly Durdin, Emily Allen & Ross, Averi & Easton, Roxie Foust, Scott Roper, Adela Owen, Elaine Palance, Shelby Steindorff, Rochelle Pointer and Lezlie Wiederhold.

Memorial Services will be 1:00 p.m. Friday, June 17, 2022 at A. O. Smith Funeral Home in Stamps, Arkansas. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. with Brother Ron Eldridge officiating.

The family will be forever grateful to the The Kidney Institute in Houston, Methodist Hospital, and Dr. Nathan J Wright.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, Lewisville, Arkansas, Wilson Cemetery Association, Lewisville, Arkansas, National Kidney Foundation or Passion for Pooches Rescue, Texarkana, TX

Not sure what to say?

Walter and Ron were my friends my senior year of high school. I had transferred into Mt. Carmel and played football with Walter and met Ron through Walt. The three of us hit it off really well but once high school was over, we all went separate ways and I never got to see them again. Please accept my condolences on your loss.

I had the fortunate opportunity to grow up across the street with the Kahanek's. There are so many memories of spending time with Walt that I will never forget. Learned so many things from watching him and his Dad working on things in their garage and hearing so many stories about different things. Playing in the "fort house" in the backyard, swimming in the neighborhood pool during the summer, carpool rides to/from school in the old vintage "Thunderbird", hunting the Jewett...

Suzanne, Joe and I are so sorry to hear about Walt. You will be in our are thoughts and prayers..

My thoughts and prayers are with Suzanne and family.

Suzanne and family, I am so sorry to learn of your loss. Sending prayers of peace and comfort as you reflect on the many years of happy memories.

Suzanne, So sorry for your loss. Prayers for all. RIL Walt

Suzanne, I am so sorry for your loss. My prayers are for you and the family.
