Walter Kalaf was an incredible force for good as the President of the Center for Life Enrichment in Highlands. Along with Mark and Kathy Whitehead, he pulled me into the CLE circle and, subsequently, Western Carolina University. He was one of those people who was a model for what you do in retirement: you find new work, new ways to improve your community, and you never stop! Walter was the minister at Southside Methodist when my family joined the church. I was only in the sixth grade but remember him well. In July of 2016, my Mom (Jo Ann Linville) and I had the pleasure of having lunch at Oak Hammock with Walter and Janey. They also showed us their lovely apartment and gave us a wonderful tour of Oak Hammock. It was great to reconnect with each other after so many years!!
