A bit younger in the generation and history of St. Martin's - my brothers, sisters, Matt, and I were the last to serve, play music, lector/read, and offer Eucharist with Father Mac. Let’s face it; we all loved to go there because it was the shortest Mass around. ? Reading through all of these beautiful thoughts and comments everyone is leaving about him leaves me with but one: He was the same person when he began his journey that he was in the end. A...

Father Mac
He will be missed. He was great with children. He would come out and watch the softball game that we had representing St. Martin back in the 70's. My condolences goes out to his family and friends

Father Mac always put the children of St. Martin's first. He lived for us and that little church! We, the 8th grade graduating class of 1974 really benefited from his presence and there will never be another Father Mac and we were so blessed to be in a part of his life. Amen.

Fr. Mac was one of the BEST priests I've ever known. He had a gift of working with kids, a great sense of humor, and rewarded hard work. His love for people was genuine. Rest In Peace Fr. Mac. See you in heaven one day.

I was just going through some old things and found a beautiful note Father Mac wrote to me. He was such a special priest and I have not met anyone that compares to him. I have so many fond memories of serving mass at St. Martin's when girls were not allowed to serve at other Catholic churches. I always thought of him as a revolutionary because of what he allowed us girls to do at mass. He will be missed by me and many others. Rest in Peace, Father Mac.

I will always remember the swimming trips to the Holiday Inn, oranges, girls serving mass, and class trips. Thank you Father Mac for being a strong guiding light for all us! You will be missed.

I agree with my BFF Lorie, my childhood would not have been the same without this man! Me & my brother were not catholic, but attended SMOT & he never treated us any differently than the other kids! That always meant a lot to me - even getting to serve with the other girls preparing the altar gifts! He was the first GENEROUS person I ever remember encountering & truly was a joyful soul. My life has been touched forever by him & blessed beyond measure for his presence in it!

Wow! What would childhood have been like without Father Mac? I remember his funny stories and how he went on and that it frustrated the teachers that wanted us back in class. I remember Holiday Inn pool parties and Straight A Big Macs!!! Tennis courts in Washington Park? Yep! We had them. He even let the girls serve!!! Thanks, Father Mac! Rest in peace.
