Not sure what to say?

Walter was a dear family friend who never ceased to entertain us, surprise us, and grace us with his kindness. I was fortunate to enjoy a brief, three hour, lunch with Walter and family in November of 2012. Walter was in good form, joking, telling stories, and teasing the wait staff. We had no idea it would be our last visit. My brother and I often admired Walter's ability to entertain a room of people, while at the same time giving focused attention and kindness to others. I met Walter Mayfield through my friend, Charlotte, and he was a sweet man.

Walter was such a good friend to my husband (his fraternity brother) Buck Moffett and to me, both in our years in NYC and my life here in Florida.

On behalf of his close fraternity brother, Jim, I want to express our eternal thanks for all Walter did for usd during a difficult time, and for his continued and loyal friendship. The world became a more exciting place each and every time Walter graced our presence. Never wanting for enthusiasm, we'll sorely miss his grace, eloquence, and charm.

I first met Walter in the early 60's, long before either of us taught at STCC. He enjoyed life, laughed easily, was always a gentleman.

Walter was a great teacher at STCC who exuded enthusiasm for journalism. He was the first to encourage me to pursue that career and the frist to warn me of its financial shortcomings.
