Although I did not know Walt personally, I knew him through his posts to and newsletters for the Chicago Writers Association. He was obviously a generous man, sharing his time, talents and knowledge, and encouraged all of us in CWA to strive to be our best. He remained incredibly upbeat while he fought his health challenges; he will remain an inspiration to me for a long time to come.
My heartfelt sympathies, and those of my family's, to Joan and the rest of Walt's family. Godspeed...

I want to express my condolences. I knew Walt only through his emails and interviews on behalf of the Chicago Writer's Association, but I truly appreciate his dedication to his craft and to the support of the Chicago writers' community. He inspired more aspiring writers than he probably ever imagined, and we will miss him deeply.
