Not sure what to say?

I wanted to take this opportunity to thank each and every one of you that took a moment to offer a word of peace, encouragement and consolation to our family. My father impacted so many lives and knowing how many of you care has been a true blessing to our heavy and grieving hearts. May all the love return to you and strengthen you during this difficult time!

Walter Dean Myers gave voice, and hope, to youths everywhere who discovered the freedom that reading affords. He will be missed. Is he irreplaceable? Probably. At the same time, I believe that someone will invariably step up and continue to do what he has done, and that person is likely to have been shaped by reading Walter's books.

Walter Myers' writings made a big difference in the lives of many young people. I saw this firsthand as an educator. He will be missed, but his writings will continue to inspire many for decades. If the memories of Walter proves to be too difficult to bear, draw close to God in prayer.

Sending my sincerest condolences during this difficult time. I didn't have the pleasure to know Mr. Myers personally, but I read every book of his that my library had during high school. His words and stories opened my world and touched my heart. They will continue to do so for many young adult readers to come.

Whenever I'd see the name Walter Dean Myers amongst books on display in bookstores and book fairs, I'd know instantly that quality reading was in-store. I too treasure my copy of Brown Angels as well as the many other wonderful books Mr Myers penned.

To the family; my sincere condolences, I have been a fan of Mr. Myers for many, many years. Had the pleasure of meeting him at Brooklyn Musuem and it is one of the highlights of my teaching career.

Dear Chris and family,
I send you my deepest sympathy; I brought your dad to Nathan Bishop Middle School in Providence when you were at Brown...and you came too, and our mutual friends the Trotters celebrated you also. Our students were thrilled with his books and developed art projects, if you recall. I saw him at many conferences...and I cherish his books and my memories. I loved your most recent NYT article.
Thank you for his gifts to thousands of students and teachers.
Susan A....

Was fortunate to meet this extraordinary author (but only once). Keep copy of Brown Angels on my shelf. May God grant you His peace.
