Spinelli - Ricciuti Funeral Home - Ansonia Obituary

DERBY: Walter G. Nelson Jr., age 75, entered into eternal rest on April 12, 2021 at his home in Derby. He was the loving husband of Marcia Restagno Nelson.

Walter was born in New Haven on January 15, 1946, son of the late Walter G. and Elizabeth Bauer Nelson. Walter was a resident of Derby for 45 years. He was employed at the former Western Electric in West Haven and later worked in distribution at the former Bayer Pharmaceutical, also in West Haven, until his retirement. Walter enjoyed working as a vendor at parades and special events. Following his retirement, Walter was a delivery driver for the former Daisy Dock Florist in Derby and a gardener/groundskeeper at Oak Lane Country Club in Woodbridge. A proud veteran, Walter honorably served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. He and his wife Marcia enjoyed annual vacations to Hawaii, their favorite spot.

In addition to his wife Marcia, he leaves to cherish his memory, a son, Brian M. Nelson of Shelton, a daughter, Tara R. Fette (Brian) of Seymour, a brother, Dennis Nelson of West Haven, a sister, Cindy Ciccia (Joseph) of Monroe and loving granddaughters Jenna and Katelyn Fette.

Walter’s funeral service will be private and at the convenience of the family. Burial with U.S. Navy military honors will take place in Mount Saint Peters Cemetery in Derby. The SPINELLI-RICCIUTI/BEDNAR OSIECKI FUNERAL HOME in Ansonia is privileged with the arrangements. To sign Walter’s guestbook or share a memory, please visit www.spinelliricciutifh.com.

Not sure what to say?

I just heard this yesterday from a mutual friend Steve Springsteen. While in the Navy he was my best friend. When we got out I visited him at his home in New Haven. We would go skiing the winter of 68-69.I was at his house during the big snow storm of 69.I stayed at his house for three nights as all the roads going back to Long Island were closed. His mon treated me well and made me feel welcomed great lady.

Glad to have been a thread in the fabric of your life, Walter. I will miss our telephone conversations, your guidance on lawn care, and your describing the vacations in Hawaii. I was so deeply saddened to learn of your passing and my deepest condolences to Marcia, Brian, Tara and Dennis. Rest in Peace, dear friend. Go Navy.

Marcia and family. I’m so sorry to hear of the passing of Walt. Lots of good memories when we lived in the neighborhood. My sympathies to you.
