O'Neill Funeral Home - Cumberland Obituary

Walter F. O’Connor, 98, of Cumberland, passed away peacefully Friday, March 24, 2017. He was the husband of the late Mildred (Malone) O’Connor. Born in Canada, he was the son of the late Harry and Teresa (Curran) O’Connor. He was an army veteran of World War II. Walter was a milk and bread man for HP Hood & Sons for many years before retiring. He is survived by his children, Maureen Zanello, Monica Collins, and Kevin O’Connor, and two sisters, Stella Fogarty and Rita Mullaney. He also is survived by six grandchildren, Michaela Zanello, Jared Zanello, Greg Zanello, Shannon Collins, Brendan Collins, and Samantha O’Connor. He was the father of the late Dennis, Brian, and Mary O’Connor. The funeral will be held Tuesday at 9AM from the O’Neill Funeral Home, 3102 Mendon Road, Cumberland, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10AM in Saint Joan of Arc Church 3357 Mendon Road, Cumberland. Burial with military honors will be in Saint Ann Cemetery, Cranston. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours Monday from 5-8PM in the O’Neill Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations to Working on Walking, 7 Sneech Pond Road, Cumberland, RI, 02864, (workingonwalking.org) would be appreciated.

Maureen, Monica and Kevin. My condolences to all of you and your families I remember well our many visits to Rhode Island and the good times we had. Also, the card games at the cabin when your Mom and Dad were able to come to Goshen for a month in the summer. Those memories will stay with me forever. May the fullness of God's love surround and comfort you now and in the difficult days ahead. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers.
