I was sorry to learn of the death of an esteemed classmate at Richland High School and a distinguished scholar, and I extend my condolences to his family.

Dear Barbara, Debbie and Larry:

Walter was one of the most inspiring people in my life. His enthusiasm, strength and knowledge
were truly amazing. His support of my PhD work was truly a blessing.

My husband, Abdul, who died in 2001, admired, respected and liked Walt very much. Abdul was a Civil Engineer, Dean of the College of Engineering, University of Kabul, Afghanistan, and he and Walt worked together there from 1963 to 1964.We have fond memories of seeing Walt and Barbara in Charlottesville and wish that we could have seen them more often.
