WALTER LEO SCHIRR, JR.
(September 19, 1931 – May 5, 2024)
Walter Leo Schirr, Jr., passed into glory, Sunday, May 5, 2024, at the age of 92. He was born September 19, 1931, in St. Louis, Missouri to Walter and Eleanor (nee Fortschneider) Schirr, Sr.
Walter married the former Betty Jane Tiffany on June 18, 1952, in St. Louis, Missouri, and their union was blessed with three daughters. He was a graduate of Harris Teachers College and retired from a career at Monsanto having served as General Auditor and Director of Technical Development.
Walter was the wonderful, caring, devoted husband of Betty Schirr and father to their three daughters. Walter was active in their church and community, serving on church boards, President of Greenbriar Hills Country Club and Warren County Commissioner. Walter loved sports, whether hunting, fishing, golfing or attending Cardinal baseball or Mizzou football games. Walter and Betty were avid golfers traveling the world always looking for the next course to play. Family and friends were always their priority. They loved entertaining and took advantage of any opportunity to gather. He and mom taught us that the word family was actually a verb, calling for active love and active support.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Betty Schirr, February 17, 2016. He is survived by three loving daughters and their husbands; Cynthia A. Klover and husband Paul Klover, Catherine A. Hough and husband Dr. Steven W. Hough, and Cheryl A. Bettlach and husband Robert W. Bettlach; five grandchildren, Tiffany Hough Anderson, Danielle Bettlach, Sean P. Klover, Brittney Hough Madden, and Rebecca Lynn Bettlach; and seven great grandchildren, James Anderson, Catherine Anderson, Charlotte Anderson, Grayson Madden, Emma Madden, Maverick Madden, and Mackenzie Madden.
