Steve attended Elk Lake school and was a dedicated hardworking man. He spent his time working on several farms, other odd jobs and 34 years at Bendix. A loving and devoted father and grandfather he helped love and raise his own children as well as providing a home and raising several of his grandchildren. Regardless of your title, if you needed help, in Steve’s eyes you were considered family. He was always willing to lend a helping hand in any way he could along with some of his witty sarcastic words of advice. He loved riding his motorcycle and getting together with family and friends for picnics and jam sessions.
Steve was best known for his musical talent. A self -taught musician he could play any instrument by ear. He taught and inspired his children and many others to learn to play. His love of music came so naturally without any training that he could easily “pull the music out of others”. He would place an instrument in your hand and simply say “just play it!” No matter how skilled or advanced of a musician you were, he enjoyed the interaction and would excitedly guide you in the right direction. Steve spent most of his life playing music with several different family members in a variety of country bands. The bands would play at local bars, venues, benefits and weddings. “The Auctioneer” and his square dance calls were just a couple of his most requested song’s. Steve’s life revolved around his family and his music. His children are proud to carry on the legacy of music by name - “The Harvey’s”.
A Celebration of life and music jam session is planned for Sunday, July 30, 2023 from 1 p.m. until ? to be held at the Meshoppen Rod & Gun club, 517 Byrd Hill Rd., Meshoppen, PA 18630.
