Not sure what to say?

Mr Whitacre became a big part of my life the 4 years that I was in his Sea explorers group. I got to travel to competition in Chicago as well as several years to Pensacola Naval air station. I continued to sail years after i graduated high school. I even ran into him a few times on the river over the years when he was on patrol with the Coast Guard auxillary. He made a huge impact in the lives of a lot of people and will be greatly missed.

I joined Troop 364 as a scared little Scout who knew that he would never make it to Eagle, but soon after I joined, I began making my way through the ranks, and that was largely due to the risk that Mr. Whitacre took on me, letting me be a patrol leader so young. Dear Donna and family,

Walt was an incredible man - a force of nature, if you will. I always valued his advice, direction, and wit. He was and remains one of my heroes.

He will be missed by many. I take solace though in reading his about his life. Part of him is gone, but his impact has and will resonate far beyond anyone alive today.

That reflects a life so very well and long lived. I am thankful for what Walt brought, who he was, and for what he left...

Family

My 3 sons, Eric, Fred, and Marc were all part of Walt's troop 364 and his Sea Explorer Ship at Latham. Eric earned his Eagle Scout rank with the Ship and Walt once commented after Eric had spent so much time with him "Are you or am I counting him on my income tax return this year?" May the Lord bless and comfort your family ... Donna and sons and your Scout family.

I am truly and deeply sorry for your Loss. My warmest condolences go out to the family and friends of Walter. May the God of all comport Grant you peace and strength during difficult time. (Psalm 91:11)
