Uncle Wally introduced me into the great outdoors when he took me on his rout to the sporting good stores that he sold equipment to. He allowed me to go with him on several trips to the Lake Tahoe area and when Gary went along he took me into the back country lakes to fish. Lake Tahoe eventually became my wife and children´s favorite water skiing vacation destination. I actually still have the very first Mitchel 300 spinning reel that I received as a gift from Wally. I should also mention...

Dear Grandpa
For the past 55 years you have been a part of our family thru JoAnn & Preston. We have celebrated together birthdays, holidays, and special occasions - both happy and sad. After your move into JoAnn & Preston's home we became much closer. You were always willing to accompanied JoAnn & me when we would visit my Mom in the care home. You were one of the special few who could get smiles out of her. My grandkids thought of you as their Great Grandpa. I remember the way you...

One of the very special memories I have of you, Dad is when we flew together to PA to assist my Mom and Dad in relocating to CA. We could never have completed that task in the timeframe we had without your help, you were so concerned and my folks appreciated your efforts so much. I will also remember when I retired in 2010 and you began living with Gary and I fifty percent of the time. You liked to come into the kitchen at dinner time to see and ask "What's cooking"? You often shared how...

Grandpa: We will miss seeing you around the front lake and enjoying all the beautiful nature. Tara believed you were her "real" Great Grandpa and is taking your loss deep heartedly. She really loved you! I will cherish all the Halloween Camp Trips up in Plymouth with you and the fun game we played on Christmas day. You always treated us with extreme kindness. So glad Auntie JoAnn took such amazing, loving care of you! You will be in our hearts forever! Love, Lynda, Tara & Shawn Castle

I will miss you Uncle Wally. I loved our phone chats and visits at Preston and Joanne's. I am not sure you know how special you were in my life. You introduced me to the Masonic family when you and Uncle Kenny signed my petition for Job's Daughters. I always remember you as being an important part of my life. I choose to remember the beautiful day, last summer, when you received your 75 year pin from your Masonic Lodge. We were all so proud and so many cousins were together to celebrate...

Uncle Wally was one of those men that other men look up to; I know my dad did (Darwin Sowles) and I have for as long as my first trip into the outdoors. When I heard of Walter's graduation, my heart and mind were suddenly filled with all sorts of wonderful family memories; trips with Walter on his route to sporting goods stores, Lake Tahoe and the desolation wilderness with Gary as Walter worked, fishing trips near Lake Shasta, pheasant hunting in the sloughs around Sacramento, and receiving...
