Wanda Kay Gilland

Wanda Kay Gilland, age 60, went to her Eternal Home on Saturday, Sept. 9, 2017.

Wanda worked with special needs students for over 25 years for the Calcasieu Parish School Board. She was a loving wife for 34 years, and was a devoted mother and grandmother. For the last four years she loved and cared for, Charlie, her Yorkshire Terrier. She enjoyed camping, watching NASCAR and football, especially her Saints, LSU Tigers and Green Bay Packers. Wanda loved teaching her boys how to make recipes that were passed down by her family and the times shared enjoying those meals. She also enjoyed spending time with all her girlfriends. Wanda will be missed by all who met her.

Those left behind to cherish her memories are son, Jared LeBlanc and wife Erica of Hackberry; son, Chad Gilland of Sulphur; four grandsons, Brayden Austin LeBlanc, Kyler Heath LeBlanc, Forrest Rhett Gilland and Pierce Allen Gilland; special aunt, Bonnie Slayton and husband Billy; longtime companion, her baby, Charlie; and many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Steve Gilland; and her parents, Whitney and Joyce Smith.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 14, 2017, at Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Chapel. Service will be led by Celebrant Jody Barrilleaux. Burial will follow in Mimosa Pines Cemetery in Carlyss. Visitation will be held from 5-9 p.m. on Wednesday and from 11 a.m. until service time on Thursday, all at the funeral home.
