Beaverton, Oregon
Dec 9, 1942 – Mar 27, 2018 (Age 75)
Wanda Speerstra, known to her friends as “Wannie,” passed away from a heart attack on March 27, 2018 at the age of 75. She was born on December 9, 1942 in Flint, Michigan. Wanda and her four children moved to Beaverton, Oregon in 1975 and she married Gary Speerstra in 1976. Wanda was special to many friends and loved to help them work through problems drawing on her “street smart” advice. Total strangers were drawn to her and often would share their life stories with her. Over the years Wanda and Gary would talk about the many times this had happened. Wanda retired from St. Vincent hospital after 17 years working as a Senior Film Librarian in the Radiology Department. She was active in 24 Hour Fitness where she had a wide group of loving friends. Wanda loved life and would do anything for friends and family. After retiring, she and Gary spent time in Seaside, Oregon at their vacation home, traveled the world, loved cruising, trips to the casino, and shopping various bargain stores constantly looking for good deals. Wanda is survived by her loving husband Gary, and children Tracy (Scott) Kiefling, John Trosko (Karen Blackmore), Jeff Trosko, Tom (Glenna) Trosko, and Gretchen (Curt) Speerstra and 7 grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, Ruby and Everett Matthews, her brother, Bud Matthews, and grandson, Tanner Trosko. A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday April 3rd, 2018 at 10:00 AM at Evergreen Memorial Gardens with refreshments to follow. Flowers or donations can be made to the Special Olympics in Wanda’s name, a charity near to our hearts.

Dear Gary,
I just learned of Wandas passing tonight. My sincere condolences to you and your family.
Wanda was such a joy to be around. I will always treasure those backyard get togethers on out backyard deck in Seaside, and those times when you stopped by while riding through the Seaside neighborhood on your bicycles. Tom and I certainly loved hearing about all the places you two traveled to and when and where the next trip would take you to. Wanda loved life and...
