Wanda Mae Thomas, age 76, left this earth for her heavenly home on Friday, September 19, 2025, at Smyth County Community Hospital in Marion, VA.
Wanda was born in 1949 in Marion, VA, to the late Sherman and Georgia Plummer Winebarger. She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Genieve Jones, Lucille Lilly, Nancy Smith, Doris Gillespie, Marie Ashby, and Lynda Winebarger; and her brothers, Randolph Winebarger, Charles Winebarger, and William “Bill” Winebarger.
Wanda grew up as one of twelve children. She shared a very special bond with her sister Lynda, whom she loved and cared for tirelessly. The two were inseparable, enjoying their mutual love of Elvis Presley and chocolate bars. Wanda graduated from Marion Senior High School in 1968, where she made many lifelong friends. She later met her husband, “Peewee,” on a blind date at the Rainbow Restaurant in Chilhowie, beginning a loving marriage that lasted 58 wonderful years.
A faithful member of Falling Water Baptist Church, Wanda served for several years as Youth Director, devoting her time and energy to her church family. She also owned and operated Flowers by Wanda for over 15 years, where she touched countless lives with her gift for floral design. Wanda treasured her role as wife, mother, and grandmother, finding her greatest joy in spending time with her three grandchildren, who were the light of her life. She often said her family was her greatest blessing from God. She loved her Lord, cherished quiet moments watching birds from her window, and lived a life of kindness, love, and service.
She will be remembered as a devoted wife, loving mother, proud grandmother, and dear friend to many.
Survivors include her husband of 58 years, Raymond “Peewee” Thomas; daughter, Tina Thomas Armstrong; son, Wes Thomas and wife Heather; three grandchildren, Makenzie Armstrong, Bradley Thomas, and Kursten Thomas; and sisters, Susan (George) Ratcliffe and Phyllis Harris.
Funeral services will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 21, 2025, at Bradley’s Funeral Home in Marion with Pastor Ernie Powers and Pastor Rick Billings officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00–7:00 p.m. prior to the service. A private interment will be held at Round Hill Cemetery.
