The Christian Benevolent Funeral Home announces with the deepest sympathy the transition for Mr. Warren R. Carter
Warren R. Carter transitioned from this earth to his heavenly home on March 29, 2022 at the age of 78 years old. He was born September 4, 1943 in Deer Park, Alabama. He was baptized and a was a member of Starlight Missionary Baptist Church in Deer Park, Alabama and was a regular and devoted attendee at Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church in Citronelle, Alabama. At Starlight he was President of the Usher Board and trained members of not only the Starlight Usher board but other churches’ boards on the responsibilities and duties of being an usher. He was also a member of the Mobile County Usher Board Association.
Warren and his sister, Eula (Clyde) Woods were born from the union of Clem R. Carter and Maggie (Loper) Carter in Deer Park, Alabama. He is preceded in death by his parents, his sister Eula and his father’s children, Edgar Carter and Joyce (Albert) Hill. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 48 years, Roslyn (Jones) Carter of Citronelle, Alabama. He was a devoted father to his daughter Mekeshua (Howard) North and a loving grandfather to his grandsons Dmitry and Lewis who affectionally called him “Poppa”. He was also a loving and devoted uncle to his sister Eula’s children, Linda Bruton, Carolyn (Herbert) Williams, Anthony (Nicole) Woods and Donald Woods.
He was a graduate of Rosa A. Lott High School in Citronelle, Alabama and attended many technical classes in Alabama and Mississippi. He retired from Ingalls Shipbuilding in Pascagoula, Mississippi where he worked as a welder, straightener and was a supervisor to many employees over the years. In an article where he was recognized for his performance, Warren said “I’ve helped build a lot of ships, and I believe in quality. I come to work with the purpose of getting the job done and getting the job done right. My advice is to always do the job right the first time.”
In addition to his career, he was also a community servant and activist. He served for over 20 years as a City Councilman for District 1 in Citronelle, Alabama, a founding member of the Rosa A. Lott Historic Preservation Society, Inc, a Board Member of South Alabama Utilities, officer of the Citronelle Black Concerned Citizens, an officer of the NAACP of Citronelle and a community representative of Mobile Community Action. In addition to this, he was also a small business owner of a community fun center, “the Shop” in Deer Park, Alabama.
He was a man of his word and his word was his bond. He was not afraid to speak his mind and speak the truth. He was loved by many including a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
