Warren hired me straight out of college to be his secretary, starting in 1979, and I couldn't have asked for a better experience. He was exacting but patient and always kind. I think of him often and remember those years with great affection.

We continue to miss Warren very much. He was my mentor and leader at Melrod, Redman and Gartlan and taught me much of what I value as a lawyer. He was a wonderful person and inspiration.

I learned of Warren's passing in the Washington Post. I knew him only briefly as a witness opposing the government's motion to dismiss the compulsory chapel case. My testimony helped dispose of that motion in Warren's favor. I was a young West Point grad who had already offended the Army by my opposition, and my testimony was viewed very dimly by the Army.
