Warren Leamon

I just now finished reading “Unheard Melodies” and enjoyed the humor, real characters and the engaging stories of Leamon’s youth. The nostalgia of a by-gone Atlanta in what feels like today sleepier times was a balm to this Georgia woman. I wanted to find more of his writings. He spoke to me. He lives on. All thru the words he wrote, a very real part of him is with us. Thank you Warren.

Dr. Leamon was an interesting and kind person. I had him for Modern Irish Lit and Modern British Poetry, where I fell in love with the poetry of Yeats, Hopkins and Owen, among others. Although he probably was not aware of it at the time, he was one of my favorite professors at UGA.

I met Warren through my husband Donal Mooney (1941-2004) in Dublin in the early 70's. They were both part of a group who, more than anything, enjoyed conversation, discussion, debate about literature, theatre, life with likeminded people preferably over a drink. We visited Warren (& Patsy) in Athens, GA in 1977 and again memories of discussions often into the late hours and sometimes heated about books read, books liked, books hated come flooding back. On reflection an idyllic time before...

I have known Warren since we were in grade school. He lived on East Wesley and I lived on Lindbergh. Will miss him.

Warren and I were fraternity brothers at the Phi Delta Theta Chapter at the University of Georgia. I always liked him and respected him as a person, and I'm sorry that he is no longer with us.

I had the great fortune to be one of Warren's students for several courses. His intellect was as broad as his criticism was acerbic. He inspired students to be better than they might have been. I later published his novel "Unheard Melodies" -- an apt elegy at this time.
