LEONARD, Warren Allen, 89, passed away on January 12, 2013 at home after a valiant struggle, surrounded by his family. Warren is survived by his adoring wife of 69 years, Thelma, who lovingly cared for him during his long illness. He is also survived by his devoted daughter, Karen Wilkerson and her husband, B.C.; his granddaughter, Katie McCarthy and her husband, Doug; and two great-grandchildren, Campbell and Palmer, who will miss him so. He was preceded in death by a son, Brent. Warren was a U.S. Marine veteran of World War II, and a recipient of the Purple Heart for injuries sustained in the Battle of Okinawa. He was a remarkable man and he will be remembered for his kind, gentle and loving manner. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, January 16, at 1 p.m. in the Parlor at Bon Air Baptist Church. Funeral services will follow at 1:30 p.m. Interment in Westhampton Memorial Park. The family would like to thank Hospice Community Care for their compassionate service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Bon Air Baptist Church.
