Wavley Groves Sr.

The last time I saw Mr. Groves I was taking my Scout Troop camping. He said I'd make a good Scoutmaster and I've always treasured that blessing. At that time Mr. Groves said I could call him Whitey but I still prefer to address him as Mr. Groves as a sign of the respect I have for him.

He was one of the kindest gentlemen I've ever had the pleasure to know. I was one of his many scouts (Troop 413) and I patterned my own style of being a scoutmaster based on his example.

I'll always remember these things about you Whitey:
you loved the mountains
you loved your dog
you loved your family and knew how lucky you were to have them.

I think of when you had me look for your towels that had been "stolen" only to find that April had taken them to do laundry....and when you showed off for me on your exercise bike and when the seat sank down, you got stuck on the bike and said "that's what I get for trying to be cool"...and when...

Precious memories. That is what I have. Granddaddy, I will forever remember your stories, your jokes, your silly songs... trips to Oklahoma, the mountains, clogging and square dancing trips. I can see us Grandkids riding in the back of that brown ford truck going to the lots rite now. You are free now. no more sitting still. go play on your way up! I love you Grandaddy.
