Wayne Ernest Hoppe, DVM

Passed away peacefully with his family at his side on Wednesday, June 8, 2022 at the age of 74. Longtime resident of Brown Deer. Beloved husband for 52 years and best friend of Barbara D. (nee Scherdt) Hoppe. Loving father of Sarah (Daniel) Vezina and Norah (Daniel) Muenkel. Proud grandpa “Opa” of Benjamin, Chloe, Beckett and Elliott. Dear brother of Nancy (Sandy) Hewat. Further survived by other relatives and many good friends.

Wayne grew up in Whitefish Bay and was a graduate of Whitefish Bay High School in 1965. As a young man, Wayne realized he had a passion for animals, which took him to Michigan State University’s School of Veterinary Medicine where he earned his doctorate in 1970. Wayne spent nearly all of his career as a veterinarian at Lakeside Animal Hospital in Glendale.

After retirement, Wayne served the community as a volunteer at Columbia St. Mary’s Ozaukee, Friedens Pantry and St. Ben’s Community Meal. Wayne was an active member of Plymouth Church UCC and proudly served in many capacities there over the years.

He loved a day spent at Badger football games, found enjoyment in photography and always made sure his backyard birds were well fed. He also discovered a passion for building model boats and he enjoyed sailing his many vessels on the waters around Milwaukee with his grandchildren.

Wayne was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. He will be deeply missed by his family and all who had the privilege of knowing him.

A celebration of Wayne’s life will take place at Plymouth Church UCC on Saturday, August 20, 2022, at 11:00 AM. Memorials in Wayne’s name may be made to Plymouth Church UCC of Milwaukee, 2717 E. Hampshire Ave, Milwaukee, WI 53211 or Wisconsin Humane Society, 4500 W. Wisconsin Ave, Milwaukee, WI 53208.

Not sure what to say?

Pete and I want to extend our deepest sympathies to Barb, Norah, Sarah and to Wayne's whole family. We were very sad to hear that Wayne had passed away. May the Lord help you through the sad days ahead and may you find peace in your wonderful memories.

Wayne was the best veterinarian, and a lovely and generous person! Rest In Peace.

My condolences to his family. Reading his obit brought back memories when he treated my dog..Bleu. Many years ago, Dr. Hoppe was my vet when Bleu was in his last stages of life. Never a more caring, kind and understanding Doctor..for that reason, I thought of him often. Rest in peace Dr Hoppe.

I'm so sorry to hear this, my condolences to his family. I had worked with Dr. Hoppe for quite a few years and am grateful to have these good memories. I was always impressed with his caring nature and devotion to his family.

So sorry to hear of your loss. I knew Dr. Hoppe as my vet and then as my friend. He will be missed for sure. Thinking of you, Barb, and the rest of your family.

So sad to hear this. I remember him fondly from his early days at Lakeside with my father and Dr. Nelson. He also had that MSU connection with my dad. My deepest condolences to his family and friends.

I knew Wayne from Church and High School. I enjoyed knowing him and being a friend. My sympathy to your family at this time of sorrow.

Thank you Wayne, for helping me mature from a brand new rookie veterinarian into a seasoned and caring professional. Our thoughts and prayers are with you Barb and your family.

Dr. Hoppe was the most loving vet to our dog Bo, even to the point of coming to our home to see Bo "over the rainbow bridge" when he couldn´t make it off the kitchen floor at the appointed time. Thank you, Dr. Hoppe for your years of care and concern.
