I met Wayne in the mid 70's in Portland, OR. I admired his knowledge and his dry sense of humor, and I would buckle at the knees with laughter whenever he would surprise me with his unexpected, sometimes irreverent, always honest, wry wit. He was a better friend in action than I, intermittently checking in over the years, making certain we never lost touch, and always genuinely interested in what was happening in my world.
