Not sure what to say?

I worked with him for several years at Akron University, first as a visiting professor for a little over a year and then returning almost every summer in the nineties, learning from his wisdom and his way of being. I last saw him when I traveled from Spain with a colleague to attend a polymers symposium at the Polymer Science Institute at the University of Akron. I believe it was in honor of his 65th birthday. Today I mourn this great loss; I truly considered Professor Mattice my mentor....

It has been over 22 years since I graduated from Dr. Mattice's group at the University of Akron. Recently, I received the sad news from one of his students, although I had been thinking about Dr. Mattice several times in the past few weeks. Dr. Mattice was a distinguished and elegant scholar with extensive knowledge in polymer science and biochemistry. He provided his students with a great deal of freedom to tackle important questions and inspired them to explore the scientific realm during...

Wayne was a mentor, even more like a role model to me, beyond being a PhD advisor only. I owe him a lot for always guiding me towards the right path with the good manners. May your soul rest in peace, your presence will always be missed.

I was his PhD student from Thailand at Akron from 1994-1999. He is the role model of my scientific career. I will always miss him!

Dr. Mattice was the best boss and friend! I worked for him at the University of Akron from 1990 until he retired in 2007. He was so intelligent but could explain scientific things to me in a way that I could understand. I remember his kindness and sense of humor. I was so blessed to have known him!

Dr. Mattice was my doctoral advisor at the University of Akron. He was a wonderful teacher and a kind boss. When I nervously went to tell him I was pregnant with my first child during my doctoral research, he was so supportive and understanding and helped me modify my research to take me out of the chemistry lab. Later he recommended me to build the new website for the college of polymer science and engineering in 1990 starting what ended up being an incredible career and business that I...

Dear Jackie and Family: my sincere condolences! I remember Wayne as a very caring, good Collegue and brilliant scientist at LSU. It developed a friendship with many good memories. I fondly remember the visit in Wimberly with my late wife Helga, when Wayne was still working hard to improve the area around the beautiful house. Wayne will never be forgotten, not will be your love for wildflowers! Klaus
