Obituary

NEW YORK (AP) — Wayne Static, the frontman for the metal band Static-X, has died at age 48.

Morgan Renken, who worked with Static and the band for 15 years, says Static died Saturday. She declined to give the location or the cause of the death.

Static was the lead vocalist, keyboardist and guitarist for Static-X, whose "Wisconsin Death Trip" went platinum. He also released a solo album, "Pighammer," in 2011.

Renken says Static was set to begin a monthlong U.S. tour Monday and he planned to play in Russia and England next year.

Static was a native of Muskegon, Michigan, and lived outside of Joshua Tree, California. He is survived by his wife, adult film actress Tera Wray.

Not sure what to say?

I never knew Wayne personally, heck I was only 5 when he died, but Wayne has had a profound impact on my life in the past few years. His music has helped me through some tough times. He's my role model, the type of standup dude I wanna be when I grow up. Rest easy brother, you and Tera are dearly missed.

I didn't know about Static-X until about 4 months ago, but I have been a big fan since, so finding out about his passing hurt a lot. The music Wayne put out has helped through some very dark times, but also made for many good jam sessions. We all miss you down here Wayne, rest easy brother.

Words can't begin to describe what an incredible man. You and Tera were the modern day Romeo and Juliet. Both of you are loved and missed. Evil disco.

We miss you and Tera both dearly brother, the world doesn't have the same shine to it without you both. I can only imagine what you would make of these strange times we are currently in.
