Wayne David Wyssbrod, Sr., age 78, passed away on July 5, 2025. He was born to William and Evelyn Wyssbrod on June 10, 1947, in Marvell, Arkansas. He lived a life marked by dedication to family, service to his country and community, and a deep connection to the land and traditions of rural Arkansas.
Wayne was the beloved husband of Frances Marie Wyssbrod for 56 years. Together they built a strong and loving family that includes their three children: Wayne David “Shug” Wyssbrod Jr; Jonathan Dallas Wyssbrod; and Kimberly Ann Burrow.
Wayne’s early years were shaped by hard work and perseverance. His first job was as a deck hand on the riverboat. He later worked as a butcher at Higginbothams before joining Riceland Foods in the sample house. Eventually he retired from Hoffingers Industries after many years of dedicated service.
In addition to his professional life, Wayne served six years in the United States Army. Enlisting on November 9, 1965, he specialized in water purification—a vital role during wartime—and served honorably at Fort Hood in Killeen, Texas. From July 15, 1966 thru July 14, 1967 he served in Vietnam during one of the most challenging periods of the conflict. He was discharged on November 8, 1971.
Wayne’s commitment to service extended beyond the military into civic life. For 25 years he served as constable of Hickory Ridge Township—a role that reflected both his sense of responsibility and his deep roots in the community.
A true outdoorsman at heart, Wayne found joy in deer hunting, duck hunting, fishing along Arkansas’s rivers and lakes, and tending to his tomato plants with care each season.
Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, William Wallace and Evelyn Marie Wyssbrod; his brothers William Wallace Wyssbrod, Winfred Allen Wyssbrod, Winston Eugene Wyssbrod, and Wade Paris Wyssbrod; and his grandchild Dakota McKynzie Burrow.
He is survived by his loving wife, Frances Marie Wyssbrod; sons, Wayne David “Shug” (Sherrie) Wyssbrod Jr. of Marvell; Jonathan Dallas (Charity) Wyssbrod of Conway; daughter, Kimberly Ann (Kyn) Burrow of Brinkley; five grandchildren, Taylor Rowland, McKyna Burrow, Raife Burrow, Devin Wyssbrod, and Tavin Wyssbrod; four great-grandchildren, Blaine Burrow, Tate Rowland, Sawyer Burrow, and Taney Rowland. He is also survived by his sister, Janice Marie Wyssbrod.
Wayne’s legacy is one of steadfast devotion—to his family, his country, his community—and an enduring love for the simple pleasures that defined his life. His memory will live on through those who knew him best and loved him most.
May his memory bring comfort to all who mourn his passing.
