Living the American Dream
Weibin Wang and Wen Shi met as students in Beijing, and married three years later. A few months after the wedding in 1986, Mr. Wang left for the United States to study geophysics, at Yale and then at Columbia. Ms. Shi followed a year later.
"We were very happy," she recalled. "We were finally able to be together. We were working hard, trying to realize our American dream."
And they did. He did research at Columbia's Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory in Palisades, N.Y., and then shifted into computer systems to provide better for his wife and three children, working the last two years for Cantor Fitzgerald at 1 World Trade Center. The family moved to a house in Orangeburg in Rockland Country, where every weekend he cooked dumplings, noodles, even lasagna. On Saturdays he took his children to piano lessons, art school and karate; on Sundays he took them to a school in Fort Lee, N.J., where they studied Chinese reading, writing and culture. The family visited China when they were able.
"We want to instill a lot of learning and a lot of Chinese traditions," Ms. Shi said.
But Mr. Wang, 41, was also committed to his new country. In March, he became an American citizen.
I wanted to say that whoever put the beautiful white rose by your name at the memorial, it was noticed. And I cried for you and your family. You, an individual, will always be remembered by me. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. My God rest your soul and peace be with those who loved and still love you.

I hope you all still read this. As September 11th draws near every year, I always think of your dad. He was such a kind, gentle man, and he raised you to be amazing people. He must be so proud of all of you. Thinking of all of you today

Remembering and honoring the Wang family on this day. There are few words of comfort that can be said still but you can tell what a nice Dad you had by his smiling picture and all that he did for you.

My students were part of a 9/11 ceremony here in Miami Beach, and they wrote names on wristbands to commemorate each and every victim. My wristband bore Mr. Weiban's name. I want to extend my deepest sympathies for a loss that no words can express, and that no one should have to bear. Please know that his death will not be forgotten.
