WENDELL BROOKS

I am so fortunate to have known and to forever love Mr. Wendell Brooks. Since I met him as a choir and History student at BHS in the mid 90´s, I have been positively encouraged and changed by his generous spirit and his unmatched presence. He gave me the confidence to sing louder and more powerfully and he guided us with both determined focus of discipline and delight in the joys of our everyday lives and music. I am adding this message eight years after Mr. Brooks passing because I just want to let him know that I am finally getting that single subject credential in History. Mr. Brooks, you meant a great deal to me and I do not hear when I say that you saved my life at Berkeley High. Because of you I was able to push through to graduate, to go on to college, to teach in the Oakland public schools for 23 years, and to finally officially become a History teacher just like you! I cant begin to tell you...

I missed Wendell Brooks at the Revels and just recently learned of his passing. My family and friends much appreciated his work and his presence at the Revels for many years, and it was a pleasure to shake his hand in the lobby following the show. He was a wonderful man, and his was truly a beautiful life.

i dont know mr.wendells brooks but i read and belive that he eally was a true lenged and an even more wonderful father im sorry for your lost i feel your pain i recently lost my anbultia last tuesday she died peaceful just like wendelle brooks i give u my love

So sorry to hear of Wendell's passing last August...in addition to being a master of song, he was the master of bear-hugs. My belated condolences to Cheryl and all of Wendell's family.
