Wenjian Liu, 32, a New York City police officer, was fatally shot in a patrol car while on duty Saturday, December 20.
A second officer in the patrol car, Rafael Ramos, also was fatally shot.
Late Saturday night, President Obama condemned the “murder of two police officers in New York City,” noting that officers who serve their communities “deserve our respect and gratitude every single day," according to the New York Times. "Tonight, I ask people to reject violence and words that harm, and turn to words that heal — prayer, patient dialogue, and sympathy for the friends and family of the fallen.”
Liu is survived by his wife.
