Wesley J. Abernathy, 88, passed away Wed. Dec. 8, 2016, at his home in Richland, MS. Visitation will be held on Mon. Dec. 12, 2016 from 11am-12:45pm at Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Richland, MS. Funeral Services are 1pm Mon. Dec. 12, 2016 at the Ott & Lee Funeral Home Chapel in Richland, MS with burial to follow in the Lakewood Memorial Park Cemetery in Jackson, MS.

Mr. Abernathy was born in Marion County, MS and was a longtime resident of Richland, MS. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Richland, MS and was also a Mason.

Mr. Abernathy is survived by his wife, Johnnie Sue Abernathy; daughter, Shirley Ann Merkison; sister, Mary Purvis; eight grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. Mr. Abernathy was preceded in death by his two daughters, Rita Carol Abernathy and Betty Joyce Slawson; son, John Russell Abernathy; parents, James Wesley and Lena Abernathy; two sisters, Francis Fulton and Evelyn Dukes and a brother, Lavell Abernathy.
