Wesley Hugh Dempsey

Mr. Dempsey was a wonderful, wise man with such great knowledge of our Chico natural world. He was a friend to the Mechoopda of Chico Rancheria, sharing the knowledge many of us had lost through the generations. May he be blessed in the sight of our loving Heavenly Creator.

I recently discovered that Dr. Dempsey had gone on before us. I recall his genuine enthusiasm to share his knowledge with Mechoopda members who were rediscovering and reconnecting with their cultural heritage and traditions. He accompanied us on gathering trips along Butte Creek, helping us understand the plant and its relationship to mankind. Dr. Wes will be greatly missed.

Thank you so incredibly much Dr. Dempsey! You "opened my eyes" to the World of plants like no other. Your influence continues in me as I navigate through life and the many escapades I enjoy. You taught us that knowledge and beauty run deep in the natural World!
