Schrader Funeral Home and Crematory - Ballwin Obituary

Wesley Walter Hummel was born on March 18, 1935 to George and Elsie (nee Pauk) Hummel in Warrenton, Missouri, and went to meet his Lord and Savior on Friday, July 23, 2021.

Loving husband of 61 years to Jane (nee Klopfer), dear father of Donna (David) Newell, Teresa Hummel, and the late Linda (Tom) Dunn. Loving grandfather of Sean Stryhal, Stephanie (Bryan) White, Bryce Newell, Scott (Jasmine) Newell, Angela Dunn, and Matthew Dunn. Dear great-grandfather of Charlie Stryhal and Emerson White. Dear brother of Geraldine (the late Wayne) Murphy and the late Phyllis (Ed) Kappelmann. Dear uncle, cousin and friend to many.

Wes was a wonderful husband, family man, friend, educator and coach, who was very outgoing and never knew a stranger. He would prefer to spend time with his family more than anyone else, investing a lot of energy into assuring they were happy and cared for. Teaching was his passion, which went well beyond the classroom. Imparting knowledge and wisdom to his family throughout the years was his greatest joy. He also had a special interest in learning and sharing about the Bible. In addition, Wes was passionately patriotic. His love of Country was exemplified by his unwavering commitment to conservative principles and the traditional values advanced by the founding fathers. This enthusiasm was consistently expressed and was a core element of Wes' writing, speaking and teaching.

Services: Visitation at Schrader Funeral Home (14960 Manchester Rd) on Tuesday, July 27th from 4-8 pm. There will be a graveside service at the Warrenton City Cemetery at 10 am on Wednesday, July 28th. Afterward, a Memorial Service will be held at Twin Oaks Presbyterian Church (1230 Big Bend Rd, Ballwin MO) at 2 pm, followed by a reception where we can share our memories together.

Arrangements by SCHRADER Funeral Home and Crematory. Friends may sign the family's on-line guestbook at Schrader.com.

Not sure what to say?

My condolences to your family. Wes was one of my teachers at Parkway Central and made learning both fun exciting. A truly kind soul. Rest in peace, Mr. Hummel.

Wes will be missed. He was a wonderful man. We will always remember our walks and talks at Chesterfield Mall.
May God give you peace as you grieve his passing.

Condolences on the death of Wes Hummel, a good man and a fine teacher. I first met Wes my first day at Parkway Central pre-school meetings in 1968. He and Joe Ammann, then department chair, approached me about changing the classes we were scheduled to teach. Wes had a great interest in politics and government, and I was scheduled to teach government. I agreed to the change. Years later, Wes helped me move into a new home He was always helpful to others, a true gentleman.

Wes was very dear to us. He was always so friendly and always asked about us first. He never complained and always had a smile and cheerful disposition! We will miss him dearly. Please let us know if there is anything we can do for you, Jayne. Prayers and the Lord’s comfort for you, your children and grandchildren!❤

He was a great man and we will all miss him. Our sincerest condolences to Jane, Donna, Terri, and all of his closest family members.

We are long-time friends of Donna Hummel Newell and David Newell. We share with them their sorrow at the loss of their father. We will be praying for them and the entire family.

Wes, unfailingly, greeted people with a smile and a pleasantry. He was a true gentleman.

In loving memory of a wonderful person. We will love you and miss you always.

Sorry for your loss.
