CREVE COEUR - Wilbur F. "Van" Heflin, 88, of Creve Coeur passed away at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 16, 2013, at Proctor Hospital in Peoria.
He was born on May 31, 1924, in Iuka, Ill., to Hershel Raymond and Maudie Rosalie (Eddings) Heflin. He married Mary Glenna Raffety in Springfield, Ill., on Feb. 7, 1957. She preceded him in death on Oct. 15, 1995. He was also preceded in death by his parents and brother.
Surviving are three children, Beverly Trout, Michael (Barbara) Heflin and James Heflin; five grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
Van was a U.S. Navy WWII veteran. He was a former member of the American Legion.
He worked at Caterpillar Inc. for 36 years, retiring on Jan. 1, 1983.
He was a former member and treasurer at Richland Southern Baptist Church in East Peoria.
Private services will be at Remmert Funeral Home in East Peoria. Burial with military honors will be at Fondulac Cemetery in East Peoria.
Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
