My name is Steve Pederson. Sgt. USMC. I served with general Simlik at hqtrs Marine Corps G4 division. He and I had a great relationship. His wife and I were from the same state. I served with him from 1970 to 1972. I admired him greatly. I did not know of his passing until now. I regret not knowing sooner. He was a great and good man. Rest in peace Marine.

My grandparents in Youngstown, Ohio, knew General Simliks parents and, in fact, were helpful to them. They were always proud of the "sim lik" boy. My husband and I attended Muskingum College but it was not until a few years ago that we were made aware of the General through one of our professors, William Fisk, who was a long- time friend. We established contact and had a wonderful time remembering his parents and my family. We hoped to meet but heard no more. I am just now reading his...

My condolences to his wife and family. Major General Wil Simlik was good friends with my parents, and was also my godfather. I only met him a few times over the years, the last time in 1986, but was always very impressed with him. He's the kind of larger than life individual that left an indelible positive and good impression on everyone he met. And he will be missed. Fair winds and following seas sir. Semper Fi.

I met Major General Wilbur Simlik when, in 2003, I travelled from Austin, Texas to Mesa, Arizona to collect his oral history for the National Museum of the Pacific War in Fredericksburg, Texas. I was apprehensive and concerned that the interview would not go well. He was, after all, a retired Marine Corps General. But, immediately upon my arrival, General and Mrs. Simlik put me at ease. They were gracious hosts and he was an excellent interviewee. By the end of the interview, however, it...

For two decades or longer General Simlik and I enjoyed a unique camaraderie as he was a member of my congregation in Oceanside (First Presbyterian) and I was his pastor. His goodwill and affirmative support over the years is gratefully acknowledged. My wife was one of his favorite "clients" at his booth at the Vista Farmer's Market. What pride he took in his macadamia nuts! There is no doubt that Will was prepared to meet his Maker. We are grateful for having had his friendship.

Pearl and family,
On behalf of the Rotary Club of Camp Pendleton, I extend our deepest sympathy on the death of General Simlik. You were a driving force to one of our most successful programs, our "Generation-2-Generation" furniture/housewares drive, of which to date, is going strong. We will never forget your commitment to the Marines and their families of Camp Pendleton. Rest in peace and Godspeed.
