William J. Ackerman M.D.

Dr. Ackerman was my VIP doctor while iI lived in San Diego. I adored him and when I returned from a cruise I called the office which was closed. I still take all the meds he prescribed then including O2 at night. I am 82 and 1/2 and am so so sad that he has passed on. He was a terrific doctor!!

Dr. Ackerman was the internist and pulmonologist for my father, John Richard Yoder. Dad was a very intelligent man who asked many questions. I accompanied Dad to many of his appointments and always was impressed by Dr. Ackerman's patience, compassion, respect, and deep knowledge. In spite of a number of significant medical problems, Dad lived to be 99, in no small part due to Dr. Ackerman's exquisite care. Bill was a classmate at SUNY Jacobs Medical School in Buffalo, NY, graduating in 1973. We recently had our 50th year Golden Reunion. As a Medical Student he was 'one of a kind', a friend to all of us who had the pleasure of training with him. Deepest sympathies to the family of Dr. Ackerman. He was my primary care physician for about 8 years prior to his retirement. Dr. Ackerman was a thorough and compassionate caregiver. We shared a passion for martial arts. I could tell he cared about my emotional and mental wellbeing as much as my physical health. He was a special man.

Carl and I were so sorry to learn of Dr. Ackerman´s death in the U-T. He had been my father´s physician years ago and then Carl and I were his patients for over 20 years. He was always so kind and caring and got to be a friend.
