Not sure what to say?

Bill was open to all jazz that was of a high quality. He was a big supporter of the music and its history as well as it future, so how fitting that his memorial took place at The Beachland Ballroom.

I just learned of Bill's passing. He was my former roommate on Hessler Street back in the 1970s, when I was a student at CWRU and fellow WRUW programmer. Bill came to my wedding in Chicago in 1984, and we stayed in touch and saw each other every few years. He was kind, generous, and lots of fun to be around--as well as a fountain of knowledge of jazz. We had many great talks over the years. I will miss him.

God Bless Bill A true music man!

Bill and his sisters were as much a member of my family as anyone could be. I have known them all since I was 4 years old. He was wonderfully kind to me when I moved back to Cleveland after many years. My saddest thought is the number of times I thought to call him to go hear some jazz and didn't do it for one dumb reason or another. Sue and Karen, I am so terribly sorry for your loss.

continued peace and peace to the family

Bill and I were friends for 65 (that's right, 65) years, from the time that we were small children playing together in the fields and yards around our neighborhood on Northampton Road (Cleveland Heights). Though we haven't seen each other face-to-face in many years, over the last decade we made a point to call each other on our respective birthdays (both in early October) to send good wishes and trade a bit of news. Bill was a kind soul and an honest-to-God expert in the music he loved so...

bill was an incredible friend --

Bill was one of my best friends. I knew him for many years, going to concerts and dinners together, often with friends of ours. He had his quirks like all of us, but I can't remember hearing him say an unkind word about anyone when we were together. Since I moved to the East Side last year, we started hanging out more. We were both music junkies and the last time he visited my place, I actually turned him on to some R & B music he had never heard before (I considered it a coup). I will...

Bill was an incredibly knowledgeable guy and a heck of a librarian. The RTA ride from downtown to the Shaker stop was all-too brief once he got going--it was like riding with Liner Notes. So long, Bill.
