WILLIAM HAROLD �BILL� ANDERSON, age 80 years, a resident of Southview Drive, Elkins, WV departed this life Saturday evening, August 2, 2008 at his home following a courageous battle with cancer. He was born Tuesday, June 19, 1928 at Walton, WV the oldest son of the late Opie Anderson and Elsie Harper Anderson. On March 26, 1954 he was married to the former Geraldine �Jerry� Sunderland who survives. Also surviving are two sons, David Michael Anderson and wife Lanette, Dunbar; Charles Douglas Anderson and wife Angela, Waynesboro, PA; two brothers, James Edward Anderson, Grantsville; Robert Gary Anderson, Youngsville, NC; six grandchildren, Lindsay, Eric and Sarah of Dunbar; Jenna, Emily and Karina of Waynesboro, PA; and one great grandson, Christian Blake, Waynesboro, PA. Preceding him in death are one brother, Paul Curtis and one sister, Virginia. �Bill was a graduate of Pineville High School at Pineville, WV and was a graduate of Marshall College in 1956 with a Bachelor�s of Science Degree in Accounting. In 1947 he joined the United States Air Force where he made the rank of Staff Sergeant and served during the Korean Conflict. He had belonged to the Rotary Club since 1960. He served as President of the Williamson, WV Rotary Club in 1964 and has been a member of the Elkins Rotary Club since 1972. He had been awarded the Rotarian Paul Harris Fellow. He served as the finance chairman of the Black Diamond Jubilee of Mingo County. He is a member of the Elkins Lodge # 1135, B.P.O.E. and was an avid golfer and bridge player. In 1992, he was commissioned as a Kentucky Colonel. Bill retired as Division Manager of Mountaineer Gas Company. In 1982, he was awarded the American Gas Association McCarter Award for saving a person�s life. He was only the second employee of Columbia Gas to receive this award in the history of the company. He is a member of the First United Methodist Church. Mr. Anderson�s request for cremation was honored. A Memorial Service will be held at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins on Saturday, August 23, 2008 at 11 AM. The Reverend Doctor Ellis E. Conley and the Reverend Doctor Basil A. Hensley will officiate and entombment of the cremains will follow at the Maplewood Cemetery at Elkins, WV, where the H. W. Daniel�s Post # 29, American Legion will present the American Flag. The family suggests that expressions of sympathy be in the form of contributions to Shriner�s Hospital for Children, 1645 West Eighth Street, Erie, PA 16505 or to the First United Methodist Church, 315 Kerens Avenue, Elkins, WV 26241 or to Hospice Care Corporation, P.
